This track began as most of my tracks... in the written word. It was intended as a tribute to the African Goddess of lightening and storms... Oya. She is traditionally said to be the wife of Shango, the God of Thunder. In Yoruba, the name Oya literally means "She Tore"... as in she tore from the sky. She is known as Ọya-Iyansan – the "mother of nine." This is due to the Niger River (known to the Yoruba as the Odo-Ọya) traditionally being known for having nine tributaries. She is ALL so related to psychic protection... spirits thathave passed on from the ralm of the living to the dead... as well as the phenomenon of trance.

In modern times... we see her archetype depicted as a Marvel Comic book character called Storm. Storm is ALL so considered to be the consort of a mighty hero called the Black Panther named T'Challa in his native tongue... and was a king of South Afica... where the title of that office was associated with the Big Cat. This is of course is my personal mythological archetype.

I had no ambitions around the idea originally that a recording would come of this at first...and then I thought of my fellow colleague... the poetess... Aphro Ingenue. We have had many an in depth conversations about African history and spirituality. I had no prior knowledge that Aphro had identified so strongly with Storm's character or that others though of her so... and so when she agreed to do this recording with me... I was elated.... and ALL though I had ALL ready written and recorded my piece... the following collaborative endeavor is what was finally rendered.

crash of thunder?

the lightning's flash... the Titans and
their clash against the Mighty One's
rotating hips?
the crackle of the whip
there at... your fingertips.

up to the seven levels... of heaven
up above?
can you write upon a dancing storm?
